This post was written in early 2010, and I just hadn’t gotten around to finishing and posting it. I credit too much DK leveling for my delay 😛
For about the last month, my son has been absorbed with DK’s. For the entire time that we’ve had the game, he has been preoccupied with pets and mounts. The days that either my oldest daughter or I have gotten new mounts have always been HUGE for him. He always wants to fly/ride the new mount shortly after the owner of the character has their first chance. So far, he’s been unable to really do any questing for himself to get a character to the point where it can get riding training, and so he’s had to rely on the two family members that have gotten there. It means that I have some mounts that I might not have chosen automatically for myself, like the Black War Kodo, but hey, it’s all great.
He has also always enjoyed just starting new DK’s. He loves to design them in the character design screen, and we’ve had literally dozens of them started up and deleted. Within the last few weeks though, he has become very proficient at actually taking them through the starting quest lines, and getting them OUT of the clutches of the Lich King!
It started with me helping on every other quest or so. Soon we progressed to him knowing the sequence of the quests and what was required, but needing help with several of the more difficult ones, including Koltira Deathweaver and the Frostbrood Vanquisher quest toward the end. No problem, I enjoy the challenge of these, and now that I’ve done it about 18 times, I am actually pretty proficient at soloing the “bubble boy” quest, as we call it at our home. It used to be that we just hoped and prayed for someone else to be in the zone, so that we could partner up to get that one done.
The really cool thing that we realized a few weeks ago, was that with each DK, comes availability of THE MOUNTS FOR THAT RACE…….click, the light went on, and my little guy began to start, and systematically complete DK questlines for almost all of the races. At this time, I think we have everything except a dwarf and a tauren. Actually, I think the tauren is started, but just not out of his starting area. For a boy of six, I’m pretty impressed.
